About the Subject:
As children grow into adolescents, they go through many physiological changes. Curiosity to understand these changes gives rise to many questions in their minds. They eagerly search resources to find answers to their myriad questions.
Do they get answers from their formal relations – parents and siblings? Do the college youth have proper or adequate knowledge of sexual behavior? What types of questions do these youth have in this regard?
Challenges & Learnings:
Twelve youth from Sonopant Dandekar College of Palghar village got together to find out answers to these questions. They started their research work to understand sexual behavior among college students. Initially they thought of preparing a questionnaire but in the process they realized that it was very difficult to find respondents who could come forward to discuss this issue. So they started collecting questions from their peers. They organized a community event and created a comfort zone for the youth to talk on sexual behavior, where they could easily share their views on this issue.
Conclusion:
Youth don’t have space to discuss and to talk on sexual behavior in their family. Most of the youth try to know about sexual behavior from their friends and different types of publications. Magazines and newspapers too don’t publish enough information and whatever they publish is also not found very authentic.
End Product:
The group prepared a compilation of all the questions collected in their research and looked for authentic answers. They prepared an informative pocket book about sexual behavior.
