About the Subject:
This group formed by the students of Textile Design Course of the SNDT Home Science College was very curious to find out what is the focal point of the shopping habits of the young women in the city. There is always a debate whether the fashion scene in every season is driven by the designers or the consumers. To discover the secret of this issue and to find out why young women go to a particular area to shop for a particular dress, they decided to interview those who love shopping.

Challenges & Learnings:

They decided to take the whole of Mumbai city as the area of their subject but the time and other strains curtailed their ambition. They also had to grapple with questions related to what area to choose, what items to focus on etc.

Conclusion:
What their research discovered is that a certain item is purchased in certain area irrespective of the area of residence. For example, someone who lives in Thane will still come to Bandra to shop for a Western outfits. While the economic abilities affect the shopping behavior the most, issues like real need and the accompanying person can definitely influence the shopping. Some young women felt that for certain shopping a certain individual’s presence was very helpful.

End Product:
They created very lovely shopping bags, some maps on the shopping bag depicting favorite places in the city showing major shopping areas for some specific items and also created a diary.
