About the Subject:
The teacher-students team of St Joseph College, Satpale, a R-Urban area near Mumbai were keen to
judge how the subject of history can related to their own life. To explore this further, they
decided to study the local history of their own college itself.
Challenges & Learnings:
While most students do not like to study history as a subject, they found it interesting to see how
history relates to their own lives through their college and did the research enthusiastically. They
interviewed not only the current students and teachers but also spoke to many alumni both in terms
of students and teachers. They also connected wit many local citizens who had interesting historical
perspectives to share. Although in the beginning making people speak was not an easy task, the
researchers became deft at that with practice.
Conclusion:
The analysis and synthesis of all the information revealed that the students and teachers of the
past had taken a lion’s share in the development of this institution. This also created a special
relationship in the minds of the researchers with their institution, a bi-product of their research.
End Product:
They produced a collage of the various historical materials they had gathered along with many photographs.
