About the Subject:
Comprising of young professionals who represented one extreme of migrants to the city, this group considered themselves to be transients. The project began as a way to explore the city, but evolved to become an introspection of their life and their engagement with the city.
Challenges & Learnings:
Some of the group members were participants in a global economy and had an almost nomadic relationship with the city – spending three-fourths of the month traveling to other countries, spending more time in hotel rooms than in their “home”. They saw the city as a temporary stop, on their way to better opportunities, better “places”. Simultaneously, they were conscious of the fact that despite its temporariness in their overall scheme of things, the city did stake its claim on them.
Conclusion:
Despite moving about in the highly-educated, highly-placed circles of Mumbai, members of this group felt that they were not fully accepted into the folds of the city.
End Product:
A photo essay capturing the transient images of the city and a blog containing the biographies of the group members were used to disseminate their self-discoveries.
