Events – Roundtable Discussions

We had three roundtable discussions on specific and related issues:

April 2005: Roundtable discussion on the wider issues around the rape crime at Marine Drive

The intention behind this roundtable was to take the discussion beyond safety to engage with the idea that women, all women, sex workers, bar dancers, spaghetti strap clad, sari clad and burkha clad have the right to access public space as citizens.

• December 2005: Roundtable discussion around the institutionalizing of Dress Codes by Universities across the country.

The intention of this roundtable discussion was to raise questions not just about dress codes but other regulations and restrictions in order to discuss them as inter-linked issues that seek to censor our voices and define our choices.

• March 2006: Roundtable discussion on the complex issues of lesbian women\’s access to public space

The aim of this discussion was to raise questions about what it means to be lesbian in Mumbai, discriminated on grounds of both gender and sexual preference.
