Administrative Team
Dr Anita Patil-Deshmukh is the executive Director of PUKAR and she brings a wide variety of talents and expertise to the organization. A physician by profession, Anita received her Masters in Public Health from Harvard University and worked as a faculty Neonatologist in a teaching institution in Chicago for 20 years.
During her tenure she was also the Director of the Pediatric Residency programme and Director of Continuous Medical Education for the Department of Pediatrics. During her stay in the USA she played a major leadership role within India Development Service (IDS) a pioneer organization in United States which supported multiple, small scale, socio-economic development projects across India.
During her voluntary tenure at IDS, she returned to India each year to visit, evaluate and learn from the projects IDS supported. She organized many important seminars in Chicago on developmental issues and helped build links between several philanthropic initiatives and leaders in India and the United States. Anita relocated back to India in 2005 to contribute to the developmental sector and currently she is also the Senior Advisor for India China Institute (The New School, NY).
Anil Kumar Valmiki is the Office Coordinator at PUKAR. He has completed his SSC and a basic diploma course in computers from NIIT. He hails from Bareilley, UP and has been in Mumbai for over four years. A self learnt computer expert, a prolific blogger and a budding poet, Anil also teaches computer skills to the youth from the community on a voluntary basis.
Finance Team
Anupamaa works part-time with PUKAR as a Grant Manager. Her work involves liaising with funding agencies once they start supporting PUKAR projects. She prepares financial reports along with the accounts team and keeps track of all the cash and cheque transactions of PUKAR.
She worked as the full-time Office Manager with PUKAR from 2005 to 2008. Before coming to PUKAR, she was teaching Radio & TV at Sophia Polytechnic (Diploma in Social Communications Media). Her educational background includes an MA in Psychology (Counseling) and a diploma in Social Communications Media. She has also completed a diploma in Ecology and Natural Resource Management and a Certificate Course in Women’s Studies from SNDT University.
Though there is no singular theme in her academic engagement, Anupamaa believes that her varied pursuits help her to bring various perspectives to her involvement with PUKAR’s projects, which at times goes beyond simply managing grants!
Usha Galia has done her B. Com. from University of Mumbai, and a diploma in computer programming at NIIT. She has been working in the field of accounts for 20 years. She has worked with Chartered Accountants, trading firms, and also with The Hunger Project which is an international trust. She assists in maintaining accounts at PUKAR.
Ishvar Solanki works with PUKAR as an accountant. He has been working in the field of accounts for 30 years. He has worked with Chartered Accountants, Tax consultants, trading firms, Manufacturing units, and also worked with various NGOs – The Hunger Project for 17 years, Swayam Shikshan Prayog for 3 years; Rotary Club of Bombay downtown for 3 years and Handspun for Urban Market for 5 years.
