Perspectives on the Triple Talaq verdict

The Innovation group wanted to bring some clarity to the intensely debated decision of scrapping Triple Talaq through their study. Among the 413 Muslim respondents who were surveyed by this group, a majority expressed happiness that the Triple Talaq was no more a reality. A majority also expressed discomfort because they felt targeted, and saw it as an interference in their Shariyat. The research has also highlighted the lack of awareness among respondents regarding their own rights, concerns about who would provide for the family if the man of the house was sent to prison and what would happen to the marriage, and failure to understand the need to criminalise Triple Talaq. For the members of the group, this was an opportunity to think critically about their own religious identities as Muslims.
