Documentaries
We have produced three documentary films that capture the essence of the Mythologies of Mumbai project in Girangaon. One short documentary film, Girangaon Kal Aaj Aur Kal was made by the Girangaon team, which captured some of the interviews and snippets of the area, and explicated the past and present of Girangaon, as well as the hopes expressed by the communities here.
The second film Girangaon Chi Gatha (Story of Girangaon) puts the redevelopment debate into perspective, raising the question at the heart of this debate, that is, who is this development for? This film also captures the various cultural arts and practices, theatre forms that weaved this city’s cultural fabric and ethos. The film aims to educate citizens about art forms, many of which are now extinct.
A third film, Girangaon out of Focus, took a unique perspective of the researchers of this project, that is, the film looked at redevelopment and cultural change through the eyes of the Mythologies of Mumbai researchers who have not only investigated this process but are also a part of the community affected by it.
