The entire locality is located in a large pit of mud and swamp. Originally people from South India settled here along with Wadaris and Muslims. Wadaris migrated from the Andhra border and they spoke Telugu (Now the settlement has only 3-4 Telugu speaking homes) Their traditional occupation was building grinding stones which was used instead of a mixer years ago. The stone on which things were ground was called pata or taki but now no one does this work and the Wadaris that live here work in the BMC. This land belongs to the BMC and people pay a rent to the corporation. The prominent castes in this area are Marathas, Brahmins , Buddhists and Dhor.
As the Muslims are in majority, garment factories and sewing are prominent businesses. People buy cloth at the wholesale market at Dadar and run their own garment factories or run it in rented places. The factory owner call people from his district or home town to work for them, trains them and makes good craftsmen out of them. The men from south India work as drivers. Women work from home or work part time as maids or seamstress.
Prominent festivals celebrated by this community are Ganpati ustav, Holi, Diwali, Navratri and Eid.
