PUKAR (Partners for Urban Knowledge Action and Research) PUKAR is an independent research collective that aims to contribute to the global debates on urbanization and globalization.

The goal of PUKAR is to create a world class incubator for knowledge, debates and innovation about cities and globalization. It takes Mumbai as its conceptual base and laboratory for cross disciplinary, multi-sectoral research projects that can create a new urban knowledge, thus enhancing circulation of ideas, designs and concepts between the local and the global

PUKAR believes in democratizing research and broaden access to knowledge among disenfranchised or weakly institutionalized groups and to create a platform from which their non-traditional and non expert knowledge can contribute to local, national and global debates about their own futures. It promotes research as a right for everyone and uses it as tool for pedagogy, advocacy, intervention and transformation.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Reporting to Executive Director


Position summary:

The Program Director would be responsible for the implementation, management, supervision and evaluation of all the organization’s programs in accordance with the mission, values and goals of the organization. As a member of the senior management team, the Program Director would participate in strategic development, planning and budgeting initiatives in addition to problem solving. She/he would be responsible for specific projects as assigned. She/he would be responsible for resource mobilization and creating fiscal stability of the organization along with the Executive Director. She/he would need to possess excellent communication skills including writing ability, knowledge of finance, administration and HR issues.

We are looking for a person with:

Qualifications:
Masters in Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Urban Planning, urban design.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills
Sound knowledge of the new media and technology


Experience:

We are looking for an enterprising person with a vision for urbanism, urban knowledge production, participatory research and ability to design cross-sectoral multi-disciplinary youth developmental programmes / projects based on these. 5-7 years experience with a research institution would be preferred. People with direct experience in research collective, youth development, academic institutions media, urban planning or urban policy will be preferred.

Language: Excellence in written and spoken English mandatory Fluency in spoken Hindi is required

28 – 40 years

Location:
Mumbai

Remuneration: Rs.4 Lac to 5 Lac p.a. (Less TDS).

This will be adjusted on the basis of qualifications and experience.

STUDIO DESIGNER

Responsibilities:

Website:

Updating the Website and or coordinating updates with the PUKAR Team/Website Team
The applicant is expected to be savvy with blogs and bogging, especially through Wordpress
He/She will have to append/update the PUKAR website and blog, coordinate with the web-designing team for addition/deletion of content, site maps, structure of pages etc. and coordinate with the PUKAR Team for content, photographs and other material
 
The website will have to be updated and monitored regularly


Ezine and Announcements:
The compilation of the PUKAR quarterly newsletter will involve coordination with PUKAR Team for content & photographs and designing of the E-Zine in an HTML edition. This process will be followed by coordination with the web designing team for uploading and E-mailing of the same.

Designing stationery:

Letterheads, envelopes, visiting cards, logos etc
Designing Youth fellowship newsletter, as required
Designing posters and invites for events, as required
Designing for publications such as books
Designing other publicity material such as fliers, brochures, CD covers, etc. as required
Guiding the PUKAR Team on matters related to the print media, electronic media and designing and assisting them as and when required

Skills:
Knowledge of basic video recording & editing, photography and knowledge of social media tools like Facebook, Twitter etc. will be beneficial.

Time Commitments:
20 hours of work every week, with a flexibility to work on weekends or public holidays, either  at the PUKAR office or from home.

Remunerations:
Monthly salary Rs. 15,000/-, with the standard TDS as applicable

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER: Reporting to Executive Director


Position summary:


The Administrative Manager is responsible for the management, supervision and evaluation of all the administrative aspects of PUKAR. Need a self starter and motivated individual. Keen eye for detail and an ability to plan meticulously. Able to work independently as well as in a team. Excellent managerial skills and knowledge of administration, HR and finance.

Responsibilities:

Management of office environment by organizing and supervising all the administrative activities that facilitate the smooth running of the office.
Managing filing systems- in hard & soft format, developing and implementing new administrative systems.
Managing the calendar / meetings / appointments for PUKAR's Executive Director and other project teams.
Planning, organizing, providing leadership and controlling all administrative functions including quality and cost control of materials & equipments.
Overseeing the logistics for the recruitment of new staff, training and induction.
Establishing organizational networks.
Assisting in compilation of budgetary assessments for PUKAR Supervising updates to the Database on a weekly basis.


Qualifications:

Graduate Degree in Arts or Commerce.
Good command over English - especially for correspondence and reporting Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel & New Media
Knowledge of Marathi & Hindi (spoken, written)


Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience Experience of work in social/developmental sector is desirable

Working hours and requirements:
40 hours a week; mostly Monday to Friday; flexibility to work during weekends & on public holidays as and when required Willingness to travel within the city in case of occasional need

Age: 28 years and above

Location: Mumbai

Engagement of Service: Contractual appointment with a probation period of six months. Service conditions as approved in PUKAR will apply.

Remuneration:

Remuneration of Rs. 14,000/- p.m which will be raised to Rs 16,000/- p.m after completion of probation period

Leaves: 30 PL, 5 CL & 5 SL
Bank Holidays: 17 including 5 days of Diwali vacation
