PUKAR takes Mumbai as a laboratory for exploring issues of urbanization. Using research as a tool for intervention and transformation, PUKAR’s trained Barefoot Researchers have brought in sharp focus a Mumbai that belongs to the disenfranchised majority. These are the life stories of the deprived, the oppressed, the victims of caste and religious discriminations, of sexual and religious minorities, seen through the lens of community based youth and experienced by them, in their own words. While doing so they have become the game changers and problem solvers for their own future and the future of this dynamic, vibrant city.
